ISAS (International Student's Association of Semmelweis) organized
a collection of withdrawn 1 and 2 forint coins among the students of
Semmelweis University throughout February and March. The coins were
taken to the Hungarian National Bank (Magyar Nemzeti Bank) for
conversion, and the income was donated to the Heart Center. This gift
will be used for further improvement of the Heart Center's educational
system.

The Center of Cardiology at Semmelweis University has been serving as location for the Department of Cardiology of our university for two years. Around 240 Hungarian, 160 English- and 30-50 German-speaking students are being trained at our Institute in the frame of our graduate education system. We also take active part in the postgraduate education of apprentices; internist-, cardiologist- and anesthetist-candidates preparing for their professional exams. The principle of our graduate educational syllabus is the broad application of the practical, sick-bed-, and problem-oriented view that – besides the traditional practical classes – is realized by course-like thematic lessons as well as by the „Day of Cardiology” organized every semester with great success. We endeavor to form our practices more and more interactive and to try to make our students parts of medical attendance in the period at our disposal.
It has been great pleasure for us to gain this donation. The appreciation of our students is a proof that we are walking on the right path and every positive feedback gives us strength to continue our work.
I would like to thank you for your help on behalf of all the employees of our Institute. We hope that with ISAS students interested in cardiology we will create a long-term relationship that will be maintained even after their university-years.

On behalf of all Semmelweis University students, ISAS (International Student's Association of Semmelweis) is proud to donate 144,095 HUF to the Heart Center of Semmelweis University. In September 2007, it was announced by the Hungarian National Bank, that the 1 and 2 forint coins will be withdrawn in March 2008. Throughout February and March ISAS collected coins from Semmelweis University students. They were told the money will be donated to the Heart Center, and they enthusiastically brought in their coins for donation. We began with the English program, but soon the Germans and Hungarians heard of the great plan and encouragingly contributed. The coins were taken to the Magyar Nemzeti Bank by several ISAS members for counting and conversion.
As medical students we are constantly faced with Cardiovascular patients and are reminded of the grave condition present not only in Hungary but globally. We want to play a role in the improvement of education and further understanding of this crucial situation. An amount of one hundred forty four thousand and ninety five forints (144,095 HUF) is now at your disposal to use toward whatever it is that you think is needed in your department, which will contribute to the teaching system and/or quality of education.
